Saving Caden’s Texas A&M Ring in Galveston, Texas

Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Galveston Bay by Houston Metal Detecting Services

It started as a relaxing evening on the coast but quickly turned into a stressful moment for Caden, a proud member of Texas A&M University.

While spending time at a friend’s family home in Galveston, Caden was sitting on a second-story dock overlooking the bay. As he moved his hand, his Texas A&M class ring suddenly slipped from his finger and disappeared into the water below—roughly ten inches deep.

At first glance, the situation seemed manageable. But what appeared to be a shallow recovery quickly turned into a much more complicated search.

A Zero-Visibility Underwater Recovery

The area beneath the dock was a difficult recovery environment. The water was murky with zero visibility, the bottom was covered in soft silt, and the dock pilings were packed tightly together with barnacle growth.

These conditions meant that a simple visual search was impossible.

Caden contacted Houston Metal Detecting Services, and we prepared for a technical underwater recovery.

Arriving on scene, we deployed full SCUBA equipment along with a custom underwater grid system designed specifically for blind recoveries in tight and muddy environments.

Methodical Search in the Galveston Bay

Once the grid was established beneath the dock, the search began.

Working completely by metal detector tone and touch, we slowly swept the bottom within the grid pattern. Every movement had to be deliberate to avoid disturbing the soft sediment that could bury the target even deeper.

The confined spacing between dock pilings required careful maneuvering while maintaining precise detector sweeps across the muddy bottom.

Signal Found — Aggie Ring Recovered

About 40 minutes into the dive, a clean and solid signal came through the detector.

Carefully reaching into the soft sand beneath the dock, we located the source of the signal—Caden’s Texas A&M class ring, partially buried but completely intact.

Moments later, the ring was back in Caden’s hands.

The relief and excitement on his face said everything. For Aggies, the class ring is far more than jewelry—it represents years of hard work, tradition, and pride.

Being able to return that piece of Aggie history made the dive worth every minute.
