Matthew explained that he had been cooling off in the lake behind his home when he suddenly realized his wedding ring was no longer on his finger.

The lake bottom consisted primarily of sand, but hidden beneath the surface were remnants of older dock structures. Broken boards and sharp pieces of wood protruded from the bottom, creating hazards that required slow, deliberate movement throughout the search.
With visibility reduced to virtually zero, every recovery depends on patience, proper search patterns, and trusting years of experience with underwater metal detecting.
Unlike searching on land, underwater recoveries require locating the target entirely by sound and feel. Every sweep of the detector must overlap the previous one to ensure no area is missed.
Success Just Beyond the Expected Location
As often happens during underwater recoveries, the wedding ring was not exactly where it was expected to be.
After carefully expanding the search grid beyond Matthew's estimated drop location, my detector produced the unmistakable signal every client hopes to hear.
A few moments later, buried safely beneath the water, Matthew's wedding ring was back in my hand.
